Dr. John T. Cord is native of Des Moines, Iowa. He holds performance degrees from the University of Iowa and the Yale University School of Music and the Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in Trumpet Performance and Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas.
John’s diverse performance career has included appearances with over 30 professional symphony orchestras throughout the United States. John has also performed with groups such as the Tanglewood Orchestra, Dallas Wind Symphony, Fort Worth Opera, DFW Metropolitan Ballet, the Wringling Brother’s Barnum and Bailey’s Circus Band, Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, Corpus Christi Ballet Orchestra, USS Lexington Big Band, and the South Texas Big Band.
John is currently the Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He is also a member of the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra as 2nd trumpet, the LCSO Brass Quintet and the Praetorius Brass Quintet.
John has presented numerous clinics, master-classes and performances as an Artist/Clinician for the Conn-Selmer/Vincent Bach Trumpets Corporation. He has appeared as a guest conductor for the Trumpet Festival of the Southeast and clinician for the Iowa High School Music Association and Texas Music Educator’s Association. John is a member of the Artist Faculty of the National Trumpet Competition, and the Adjudication Board and CD Review Board for the International Trumpet Guild and ITG Journal.
John has shared the stage with artists such as Phil Smith, Byron Stripling, Allen Dean, Kathleen Battle, Allen Vizzutti, Mark Ford, John Abercrombie, Frederica Von Stade, Thompson Hanks, Keiko Abe, Lou Rawls, Marcus Printup, Ray Mase, and Ryan Kisor. John’s former instructors include Keith Johnson, Allan Dean, David Greenhoe, Michael Steinel, and John Holt.
